RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication” and is sometimes referred to as “Rich Site Summary” It is an XML-based content format for distributing news, headlines, content, etc. on the web in the form of feeds.
RSS feeds can generate more traffic towards your site on a regular basis. When a reader checks the headlines for CNN, Yahoo or any other news site which they subscribe to, they can get the updates delivered directly to their news reader by subscribing to the feeds. With RSS feeds, websites do not have to worry about the spam filters. It is because of this reason that RSS feeds are being used as an alternative to email newsletters. RSS and XML feeds can be used by website owners as content on their site too. This again helps to drive traffic to your website and enhance your online presence.
